Jay and I discussed this. While it is past the deadline, he is not the only person who was unaware of it, given that it was communicated poorly and last-minute. He was very clear about the strategy behind the decision whether or not to sign Pujols, and in my judgment, it was a reasonable one and would've wholly depended on him knowing the deadline.
More importantly, Pujols isn't hurt or anything, so he obviously hasn't gained anything from waiting the extra days.
